AI Tools

Stop switching between AI tools hoping one of them gets it right. Each has a different strength — here is which to reach for, by task rather than by hype.

Which AI is best? Which subscription should you actually pay for? It is genuinely confusing, and social media makes it worse — one reel says ChatGPT has the better feature, the next says Gemini does.

So you go to Gemini for a task, do not get the result you wanted, switch to ChatGPT, try again. A lot of time disappears this way, and the frustrating part is that nothing was wrong with either tool.

The thing nobody says clearly

Every AI has a different ability. They are not competing versions of the same product — they are tools with different strengths, and "which is best" has no answer without "for what?"

Once you stop looking for a winner and start matching tool to task, the switching stops.

Gemini — research and current information

If you need deep research, or the latest news on something, Gemini is the best of the three.

Its advantage is connection to live information. Anything where the answer changed recently — news, current data, what is happening right now — plays to that. Questions where an older, purely trained answer would quietly mislead you are exactly where it earns its place.

It is also the one most tied into Google's own products, which matters if your working day already runs through them.

ChatGPT — conversation, images and creative work

For a small conversation, generating an image, or any creative task, ChatGPT is the best fit.

It is the most comfortable of the three for back-and-forth — the quick question, the "make this sound better", the idea you want to talk through rather than research. Creative output and image generation sit in the same category: tasks where there is no correct answer, only a better or worse one.

Claude — long, structured work

If you need to work on a large task — creating a proposal, working on a PPT or PDF, even coding — Claude is the best.

The distinction is length and structure. A proposal, a long document, a codebase: these need the tool to hold a lot of context at once and stay consistent across all of it. That is a different job from answering a question or writing a caption.

A simple way to choose

  • "What is happening with…" → Gemini
  • "Help me write / make / imagine…" → ChatGPT
  • "Here is a long document or codebase, work on it" → Claude

All three are good. Which is right depends entirely on what you need.

Why the differences exist at all

It helps to know these are not arbitrary. Each tool reflects deliberate choices by the company behind it — what to optimise for, what to connect to, how cautious to be, how much material to handle at once.

Which means the differences are reasonably stable in character even though specific features change constantly. A tool built around live information will keep being the better research choice after the next update. That is why it is worth learning the shape of each rather than tracking feature announcements.

Before you pay for anything

A practical process that costs nothing:

Write down your three most common tasks. Not what you imagine using AI for — what you actually did three times last week.

Run the same real task through all three on free tiers. Same input, same day. The differences are obvious on your own work in a way no comparison article can tell you, because your work has particular demands.

Then pick one and commit for a month. Most disappointment comes from shallow use of three tools rather than fluent use of one. Knowing how to prompt a tool well is worth more than the gap between the tools.

One thing to check that has nothing to do with quality

If you are putting business information into any of these, read what the provider says about how your data is used, and whether business or team plans differ from consumer ones. Policies vary and they change.

Decide this once, write down what your team may and may not paste in, and you avoid the conversation happening for the first time after something sensitive has already gone in.

Choose by task, not by hype

That is the whole point. The tools are not interchangeable, and treating them as interchangeable causes the switching, the wasted evenings and the disappointing results.

If you are trying to work out where AI fits in your business rather than in your browser tabs, that is the kind of thing we help with as part of AI automation — and you are welcome to just ask.
